I tried the crashy opening variant with Pacifist 2.0.1, and it did not crash, but 2.0.1 does not start scanning the package before closing the registration dialog, so maybe that difference will point to a solution. So it seems that Pacifist 2.5.1, at least during OS 10.5.2, will crash at the end of the package scan, if you started Pacifist by dragging the package to the Pacifist app icon in the Finder. Pacifist launched, shows the registration dialog I did not click the “Try it” button, but instead waited for the scanning process to complete. I tried a fourth variant: with Pacifist not launched, I dragged the installation package to the Pacifist application icon in the Finder. So I tried a third variant: launch Pacifist, click the “Try it” button, and then drag the package to the Pacifist app icon. The second time I tried it, I did not drag the Pacifist package to launch it – instead, I opened the Pacifist, clicked the “Try It” button, and it did not crash then I opened the same installation package as I had before, via Pacifist’s “Open Package” button, and it opened properly. My copy is not registered (shame on me), so I clicked the “Try It” button and the Pacifist crashed. The difference was that the first time I dragged a package installer to the Pacifist icon in the Finder to start Pacifist, and while Pacifist was scanning the package, it showed the Pacifist registration dialog. Tried Pacifist 2.5.1 again, during OS 10.5.2, and it did not crash a second time.
